Gardens & Landscapes

DMD provides a fully bespoke design service from conception to completion, responding to both the client and site requirements.

DMD employs a holistic approach to the design process, fusing a creative sensibility to shaping spaces through the use of innovative hardscaping and architectural structures, with a dynamic and sustainable approach to planting.

The process starts with an initial site visit to form a brief for the project. A survey is then undertaken to provide a basis for a concept design proposal. Upon approval of the design, detailed construction and planting drawings, schedules, specifications and full costings are prepared. Tendering and planning applications are undertaken where necessary. After overseeing the appointment of specialist contractors, DMD will project manage the build process and oversee the planting, to ensure that the project is finished to the highest standards.

The process follows the guidelines and costings of industry standards established by the Society of Garden Designers and the Landscape Institute.

DMD can also provide a specialist planting consultation and design service for projects that only require a horticultural intervention, such as upgrading existing planting schemes or making new planting areas, with a focus on creating sustainable ecological plant communities.

A fully comprehensive professional planting aftercare service can be arranged to maintain and develop planting schemes, to ensure that they are always looking and performing their best, adapting to their environments as part of healthy ecosystems.

Darryl is a feature writer for Garden Design Journal and has been published in The Guardian, Homes & Gardens, The English Garden, Pro Landscaper, The Garden and RSA Journal.

About DMD

DMD creates immersive contemporary spaces that bring people and plants together. All designs are uniquely site responsive, utilising existing conditions as the foundation for innovative designed environments that are inspiring and engaging, based upon clients needs and the requirements of changing lifestyles.

DMD brings a wealth of cross-disciplinary experience to creating dynamic gardens and landscapes, combining an aesthetic vision derived from long-standing practices in art and design with a functional sensibility and an ecological understanding of the science of plant communities.

Thinking beyond the obvious and attention to detail are key to the process, in order to ensure that every project embodies a distinct experience, through the use of imaginative spatial design and a diverse and arresting palette of familiar and unusual plants.

All designs are forward thinking in terms of adaptability and sustainability. Ethical, biological and organic principles ensure that the environment is respected throughout the process, and that the well-being derived from gardens is enhanced not only for clients, but also for all the other forms of biodiversity that inhabit them.
